Air Curtain

Air Curtains are aerodynamically designed high speed air blowers, generally in a laminar
stream of air with sufficient quantity (cfm) and comfortable speeds(velocity) to offer the
designed environmental protection through open doorways/service hatches. Generally installed
atop the door opening to give a vertical air draft in case of air conditioning (cold air) or
at the bottom below the floor level (for throwing hot air in winter times). This is to give a vertical air draft all across the opening from top to bottom.

However there can be an exceptions where in it is mounted on the door sides as per designer’s convenience and preferences.

Air curtains are very much useful in saving energy in shopping malls, airports, restaurants etc. where the doors are subject to open for people to go in and out very often.

Overhead air doors are designed for comfort and convenience.
From an energy standpoint, they are extremely inefficient, and should usually be replaced with conventional overhead doors or dock seals.

An air curtain is a device used for separating two spaces from each other. It usually
happens at the exterior entrance. The most common configuration for air curtains is a
downward facing fan mounted over an opening. Normally this opening is an entrance to a
building and the air curtain is intended to help keep outside air out and avoid cold drought
by mixing in warm air from the air curtain. The fan must be powerful enough to generate a
jet that can reach the floor.

An air (non-heated) air curtains are often used in conjunction with cold storages and
refrigerated rooms.Airflow through a door depends on wind forces, temperature differences
and pressure differences.

Air curtains can be used to save energy by reducing the energy transfer between two spaces,
although a closed and well sealed physical door is much more effective. Or a combination can
be utilized; when the door is opened air curtain turns on, minimizing air flow from inside
to outside and vice versa.

ADVANTAGES
• Keeps insects, dust, dirt, and fumes out.
• For use over freezer and cooler doors to reduce humidity
and prevent loss of cold air.
• Doors may be left open eliminating the nuisance of
opening and closing automatic and manual doors.
• Reduce air conditioning costs.
• Open doors conductive to attracting customers.
• Less risk of accidents yet speeds up customer or
personnel traffic.
• Keep premises clean and sanitary.
